I can not emphasize enough the importance of brushing your baby's teeth. Even before you can see teeth you should be brushing the gums. This is not something we were aware of before our son was born. We assumed that brushing twice a day was enough. We were wrong. You should be brushing or at the very least wiping your child's teeth after every meal. If you even suspect you see discoloration on your child's teeth then it is time to see your dentist. We had dental insurance with our son and thought that a little discoloration was nothing to worry about. With in a week of seeing color we started contacting the insurance to find a dentist. They refused to assign a pediatric dentist before seeing a regular dentist. The regular dentist refused to set an appointment because they didn't treat kids under 3 and at the time our son was not quite 2. Had we known now we would have found a pediatric dentist on our own and simply paid out of pocket. It took 4 months for us to get in to a dentist that would actually look at our sons teeth and by that time they had to put in 3 crowns and do one extraction. The top front 4 teeth had sever early childhood carries or baby teeth cavities. We want to get the word out so that this does not happen to anyone else.
